There are many threats in today’s world.  Many are the same ones our parents and grandparents faced: personal safety, property theft, fraud, privacy. Changes in technology, communications, banking/finance, and criminal organizations have increased these threats and added a few new ones, i.e., ID Theft, eCrime, Malware.  Computers and networks have shrunk the globe, and made each of us more accessible and visible to others.  This in itself is not bad; however, it depends on who is interested in you, and their motives. 

Unfortunately, security threats become actions that make victims. When this occurs and investigation is needed to establish the facts and to mitigate the attack. Investigations address baseline questions of "Who, What, Why, Where, When and How". The answers to these questions establish root cause, corrective action, and the potential for recovery. They also establish a strategy for stronger and more reliable prevention controls. While investigations may be necessary, identifying threats before they are realized is far more preferable.
